There are so many brilliant events across Victoria to celebrate International Day of People With Disability. This international day celebrates the achievements and contributions of people with disability, and increases awareness, understanding, and acceptance of this vibrant community. See below for just a taster of the amazing events that are on offer!

 

1) South Gisborne Annual Tennis Challenge

  • Thursday 28th November
  • 10am-1pm
  • South Gisborne Tennis Club, 176 Millet Rd, Gisborne South

2) Disability Sport and Recreation Festival, celebrating IDPWD

  • Tuesday 3rd December
  • 10am-3pm
  • Crown Riverwalk, between Rockpool Bar & Grill and Queensbridge/William Street
  • Featuring over 40 exhibitors and three activity zones, you can try different inclusive sport and recreational activities, learn about programs you can get involved with in your community, meet Paralympians and watch the Vision Australia Radio live broadcast.

3) Mornington All Abilities Come and Try Sports Day

  • Wednesday 4th December
  • 9.30am to 2pm
  • Mornington Civic Reserve Recreation Centre, 350 Dunns Road, Mornington
  • Last year over 400 people participated in various sports and activities such as table tennis and swish, tennis, cricket, gymnastics, dance, golf, AFL. The day will start with a vibrant energetic and enthusiasm dance. This year basketball and ultimate Frisbee will also be joining the activities on offer.

4) Darebin 2019 IDPWD and Human Rights Day

  • Tuesday 10th December
  • 9.30am to 11.30am
  • Preston City Hall, 284 Gower St, Preston
  • Darebin are hosting an All abilities Zumba class on the 10th of December,  to celebrate International Day of People with Disability and Human Rights Day. The day starts with the All Abilities Zumba session, then there will be a showing of a short movie ‘Amar’, about a young woman pursuing her dreams. Afterwards, engage in a panel discussion with the producers and the cast of the movie and listen to some live rock and roll music by The Northcote Rebels.

5) MRCC International Day Morning Tea (Mildura)

  • Friday 6th December
  • 10.30am to 11.30am
  • Mildura Rural City Council – Council Room, 76-84 Deakin Ave
  • Please come and join us celebrate International Day of People with Disabilities morning tea to recognise and celebrate the skills, abilities, contributions and achievements of people with disabilities within our community and the beyond.

 6) Port Melbourne Community Beach Access Day

  • Sunday, 8th December
  • 10am to 2pm
  • Port Melbourne Life Saving Club, 38 Beaconsfield Parade, Port Melbourne
  • The City of Port Phillip, in partnership with the Port Melbourne Life Saving Club, will be rolling out the Accessible Beach Mobi-Mat and Mobi-Chair Floating Wheelchair for all to come and try.There will also be fishing and other activities. No bookings required.

7) Disability Awareness Forum

  • Friday 13th December
  • 11am
  • Monash Aquatic and recreation centre, meeting room
  • In celebration of IDPWD, Active Monash are hosting a forum to help increase public awareness, understanding, and acceptance of people with disability and celebrate their achievements and contributions to the community.
