In November, Jobs Victoria, NextGen Jobs, and the Skilling Australia Foundation are piloting a program tailored to young people with a disability (including Autism Spectrum Disorder) or a mental health condition who are interested in starting their career in emerging industries - such as business admin or IT. This has been extended to young people aged 28 and under (note that the attached flyer notes 24 or under).

The pilot program will be open for up to 20 candidates with a disability and will be designed to provide a pathway into employment.

The course will cover:

Soft Skills Content – Participants will learn about employer and workplace expectations such as communication, presentation and self-awareness.
Emerging Industries Taster – An opportunity for the participants to gain exposure to the skills required to work in these emerging industries.
Work Experience – A time for participants to gain work experience in an industry of interest. Think of this as a 3-5 day interview, where the young person can demonstrate commitment and interest in a potential role.

What is the outcome for the course attendees?

Possible opportunity for casual employment
Consideration for a traineeship in the following areas:
Business admin or HR
At the very least, increased confidence and exposure to a workplace environment for candidates who participate.
