Victoria’s alpine resorts are special and unique places – visited by more than 1.2 million people per year and contributing over $945 million and 9,100 jobs to the Victorian economy in winter alone for 2017.

Victoria’s alpine resorts, like alpine regions all over the world, will be impacted by climate change. In 2016 the Alpine Resorts Coordinating Council (ARCC) delivered The Potential Impacts of Climate Change on Victorian Alpine Resorts study, which forecasts a decline in natural snow fall over the medium to long term, consistent with other peer reviewed climate modelling for Victoria's alpine areas.

In response to the forecast impacts of climate change the ARCC will, for the first time, incorporate climate change adaptation principles into a new Alpine Resorts Strategic Plan. The requirement for all Victorian Government decision making bodies to have regard to the impacts of climate change is enshrined in the Climate Change Act 2017.

To support the development of a new strategic plan the ARCC is providing all stakeholders with an opportunity to have their say through a combination of on-line engagement and place-based workshops (by invitation) in the first quarter of 2019. We will then use those contributions, along with the findings from the review of the 2012 Alpine Resorts Strategic Plan, to write a new strategic plan.
