Stevie Payne is a bubbly, positive and funny 32 year old and is the second youngest of a large family who lives in the small town of Miners Rest, 4 km West of Ballarat. Stevie started school at Our Lady Help of Christians in Ballarat and then went on to a local school in Ballarat but always has been involved working with horses while growing up in Miners Rest.
Stevie started working as a strapper at 22 years of age at the DK Weir Stables, and has been working there ever since. He has handled many horse racing champions including the Melbourne Cup Winner in 2015 Prince of Penzance.
What an amazing moment that must have been for the champion strapper Stevie and his sister Michelle Payne who was the first woman to win the Melbourne cup... history in the making!
Stevie currently works as a full time strapper at DK Weir Stables in Miner Rest, is completley independent and likes to go to the local pub on a Friday night to play pool with his work mates.
It's great to have Steven Payne involved in the annual AAA Play event in celebration of International Day of People with Disability, talking all things inclusion!
